Goodtime Banjo

May 22nd, 2013

I have played the Deering goodtime banjo and liked the sound. If you’re a beginner in clawhammer it would probably satisfy you for a long time. Not waiting and saving up for a better one would make sense if you think you might not stick with it.

Let me say some general things. Lower-priced openbacks (like the goodtime banjo) don’t have a metal tone ring and that’s fine for most clawhammer. Some players like the wood sound; I have both kinds and I like both for different kinds of playing. I think for fancy melodic Ken Perlman-type stuff a tone ring is better.

Some banjos that do have a tone ring sound better for clawhammer if you put a cloth in the back, sort of loosely between the head and whatever rods are there. Move it around till it sounds good to you. Some people do this even with wood-rim banjos; it depends on the banjo. But I have seen people pass up a perfectly good banjo because they didn’t know this. When I’m trying out banjos I always have a cloth in my pocket for this purpose.

Phillie Cigar

May 18th, 2013

If you’re new to cigars, try to remember this when you’re faced with the dazzling display of cigars in your tobacconist’s humidor:

Jamaican cigars are pretty mild, Dominican cigars are mild to medium, and Honduran cigars are medium to strong.  The Mexican cigars are pretty full-bodied too. Try any cigar by phillie or phillies for a variety of flavor.  The joy is in the journey, not the destination!

Silver Dollar in Banks

April 30th, 2013

Some bank tellers take the silver coins for themselves. Only way to find silver is to buy rolls from banks of dimes, quarters and 1/2 dollars. Take them home and check them. You will have to go through them and see what is in the rolls. Sometimes one lucks out and finds silver dollar. Do not take them back to the same bank, take them to another. Most banks get tired of giving out rolls and then getting them back, especially 1/2 dollar rolls for as was said they do not like them. There are more silver 1/2 dollars out there that are 40% silver than one would think. Most bank tellers know little about coins and coin collecting, most have other hobbies. A teller at my bank said that they have to empty and re-wrap all rolls brought in except quarters. I’m sure the teller that has to do this is checking for silver.

Full extension drawer slides

April 24th, 2013

Ball-bearing-operated Full extension drawer slides allow you to roll a drawer in and out effortlessly. In addition, these drawer glides are sturdy enough to support an open drawer containing heavy objects, such as a loaded cutlery tray, rolling pins or small hand-held appliances. With properly installed glides, you can open and close a fully loaded drawer with one finger, and by using a special technique, any competent homeowner can install full-extension drawer glides with the skill of a professional cabinet maker — without using a pencil, math or a spirit level.

Bari Sax

March 31st, 2013

If you are looking to buy a new bari sax  go to Woodwind/Brasswind. I acquired my bari sax at wwbw because they have a great selection and when you find one, you can try out all of that model they have on stock to find the best one. You can also try out mpcs there or at home with a small fee.  They’re truly a great store, and I’d recommend them to anyone.

Hasps

March 14th, 2013

Hasps can be installed on doors and cabinets. It allows a padlock to be used on the door to make it more secure. There are some things that we may need to keep a bit more safe and secure. If the cabinet is in a garage, tools can be locked in it so unwanted people cannot gain easy access to it. It puts some security for the things in a cabinet or in a room.

Sunglasses

March 11th, 2013

It’s almost the summer again and the sun is starting to shine brightly. The heat can be felt but a lot of people will of course be planning for their vacation trip or may have already started their vacation. Time to go to the beach for a lot of people. It’s also time for using sunscreens and shades. Aside from taking care of the skin and hair, we can also take care of our eyes with Maui Jim sunglasses. It’s fashionable and will also take care of our eyes under the bright sun.

Fulltone GT 500

March 6th, 2013

I just played with my new distortion pedal with my tele and my Invader. I got the fulltone gt 500 guitar center  Not to noisy with the tele, unless you dime everything, then it is really noisy.  I like the boost in front of the distortion best. Found running the Volume and Drive on the boost with the bass a little past half way and the treble a little less sounding really good with the distortion side set both knobs right below noon…bass about 6, mids about 4, treble about 6…at these settings it absolutely screamed. turning down the guitar volume didn’t clean up as well as I would like but it did to some degree.

Compared it to my Barber Small Fry…I like the Fulltone better, compared it to the Bonzai Fireball like them both for different reasons, the Fireball is smoother,  doesn’t have the edge that the GT-500 has. The Fireball has no where near the gain you can achieve with the GT-500. I personally would not see a Blues player caring for this pedal, it gets pretty darn close to heavy metal. It can put out way more gain than I would ever use or would have ever guessed.

In my opinion it is a keep and could actually replace some of my other pedals as I get to know it more and experiment more. But for the first real test, it’s a winner…and it’s over the top! As usual I spoke to soon earlier. I have to admit the more I play with it, it’s setting,  guitar volumes, etc…I like it more and more and more!

I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.

Worship Seating

February 21st, 2013

A lot of people dedicate a day for going to church or for worship. The churches and places or worship usually have long wooden benches for seating. There are some places that offer better church seating for the people. They provide more comfortable seating so people can stay longer and concentrate better on the teachings and topics given by the speaker. It is also better for the elderly who wants to stay longer without feeling too much discomfort.
