Spinal Braces
Friday, June 25th, 2010The use of braces intended for long-term spinal support and motion restriction can often help patients live better with their diesease and recover from medical procedures such as surgery. This allows a more comprehensive approach on treating the specific needs of a patient.
There are some people who have spinal stenosis where the spinal canal compresses and affects the spinal cord and nerves. It can be caused by aging where spinal degeneration occurs. It can also be caused by a herniated disc which is commonly known as slipped disc. This can be really painful and will need attention through therapy and medication. For more advanced cases, surgery may be needed. In most cases, it can be treated without the need for surgery. Since moving will be painful especially when the spinal cord is moved, there is need of some kind of brace to support the body and keep it from moving too much. It will also help in the healing process because it is not moved too much or kept straight.
There is also degenerative disc disease where disc degeneration also comes with chronic pain. These kinds of diseases may have been caused by an accident, too much lifting or lifting heavy objects that put too much stress on the back, or it could be a condition since the person was born. These cases would need some kind of bracing system designed to keep the spinal cord in place. With the use of the brace, there would be faster recovery and more relief from pain compared to just keeping your back, neck or other part of the spinal cord straight.
